The Casa de Velázquez Miscellany

The Mélanges de la Casa de Velázquez. New Series presents original research findings on the Iberian Peninsula, the Maghreb, and the Iberian Atlantic space, following rigorous scientific criteria. With the exception of archaeology, both the African and Atlantic spaces are addressed, not for their own sake, but through the centuries-old links they have forged with the Iberian Peninsula.

In the thematic dossiers and articles in Miscellanées, diachronic, multiscalar, or interdisciplinary approaches will be favored, in the sense that they allow for the exploration of new avenues, the highlighting of new dynamics, and the cross-fertilization of different approaches. A final section devoted to current research brings together historiographical articles, opinion pieces on current scientific debates, cross-readings, and reviews of recently published works. The latter are published online only.

Statement on Gender Equality Practices

The journal Mélanges de la Casa de Velázquez declares its commitment to gender equality through the following measures:

  • The journal is committed to gender parity in the composition of its editorial bodies: Editorial Committee; Scientific Committee.
  • The journal is sensitive to gender studies and, more broadly, to studies that take gender issues into account in order to refine their research.
Inclusive and non-sexist language

Language, a fundamental tool for building knowledge and transmitting ideas, must also ensure inclusion and equity. Gender-neutral language seeks to avoid expressions that render invisible, exclude, or reinforce gender stereotypes, and promotes respectful and egalitarian communication.

Inclusion strategies must also apply criteria that ensure the clarity and consistency of academic texts. Gender-neutral language must not compromise conceptual precision or the quality of written expression, but must be integrated organically into scientific discourse.

For texts in French, we invite you to consult, among others, the Guide de rédaction inclusive (Guide to Inclusive Writing) published by Presses de l'Université du Québec.
