Access conditions
Anyone working on a research project (1st year Master's level and above) can register by presenting proof of identity. Registration is free of charge. New readers must present themselves to the librarian at the entrance to the library as soon as they arrive. If you do not meet these conditions, you can request a special temporary authorization by contacting reception or by e-mail.
Once you have registered, all the library's holdings are freely accessible, including the periodical collections, with the exception of the reserve of rare and antiquarian books.
Loan conditions
The loan of documents is reserved for two categories of registered readers:
1) Scientific and artistic members, guests and Casa de Velázquez staff benefit from special conditions.
2) External readers: tenured professors and researchers residing in the Comunidad de Madrid may borrow up to 5 documents for a period of one month, subject to presentation of the necessary supporting documents:
- an identity document
- a valid professional identity card
- proof of address less than 3 months old
The loan period must be respected. Any delay in returning documents will result in suspension of the loan for a period equal to the delay.
Books excluded from loan
Even if they are not marked "excluded from lending", readers may not borrow :
- works from the reserve
- works printed before 1950
- folios
- usuals
- periodicals
- damaged documents
