¡Viva Villa! network of French artist residences
¡Viva Villa! is a network of French artistic residencies abroad created in 2016 by Casa de Velázquez (Madrid), Villa Kujoyama (Kyoto) and Villa Medici (Rome), joined in 2023 by Villa Albertine (USA).
In 2023, ¡Viva Villa! will evolve from a festival to a platform for supporting contemporary creation through two initiatives: a support fund and a professional day.
¡Viva Villa! promotes the work of artists, researchers and creators who have passed through its network of residencies throughout France.
The ¡Viva Villa! support fund
Every two years, ¡Viva Villa! opens a call for projects for its support fund (endowed with 200,000 euros) aimed at French cultural structures (metropolitan and overseas) wishing to co-produce a project involving at least two artists from two different residencies.
Selected by a jury, the winning projects are of various types and scales: exhibitions, performances, installations, concerts, publications, etc. Applicant structures undertake to provide funding at least equivalent to that guaranteed by ¡Viva Villa! in order to amplify the leverage effect.
The Professional Day
Each year, ¡Viva Villa! also organizes a professional day in Paris, bringing together artists, researchers and authors in residence, as well as numerous guests and institutional representatives.
Conceived as an exchange platform for the residents, the day is also structured arounda multidisciplinary program open to the public, offering meetings, workshops, performances and screenings.
Since 2023, this professional day has been held in October at the Gaîté Lyrique.
Programming
The projects supported by the ¡Viva Villa! call for proposals form a constellation of events spread over a two-year period. Eligible for support throughout France, they enable the work of artists who have completed a residency abroad in one of the four ¡Viva Villa! residencies to be presented to a wide audience throughout the country.
